Siyum Hamesechta (Shabbos 157)

It is customary to find a link between the end of the mesechta and the beginning. The sefer Shabbos Shel Mi says that we learn here that there is a leniency in the prohibition of measuring on Shabbos. For a Mitzvah, it is permitted. The beginning of the mesechta tells us, however, that carrying from one Reshus to another is not permitted even for a Mitzvah, such as giving a donation to a poor person.

Best wishes to all for a g'mar chasima tova!

Thanks for getting this started again. Hopefully, I'll post more in Eruvin than I did in Shabbos and hopefully others will do the same.

Kollel Iyun Hadaf elaborated a bit on this to explain why there is a difference between the two:
In contrast to the opening Mishnah, where the Ashir is Chayav even though his sole intention is to perform a Mitzvah (because it is a case of 'P'sik Reisha'), here (even though it is 'P'sik Reisha') he is permitted to do it, because the Rabbanan did not extend the Isur of measuring to where it is not needed (like we learned with regard to Cheshbonos shel Mah-be'Kach in
the previous Perek).
